Why we read books?

Image
Photo by Jarry lee/Buzz feed It was unbearably sad for me to answer this question. A friend of mine stated that learning from other means such as TV, movies and other videos are more fun and less time consuming than to dwell on books for hours. By all means that is true. There are tones of amazing Hollywood movies which offer knowledge on numerous genres. So why do people turn to books when it can be finished in just two hours of video? What do books offer?  Here is a Quora answer by Andrew Weil. "Books have been the primary repository of human knowledge since writing was invented.  Because of books, each generation can stand on the knowledge that has been previously accumulated.  We don't have to reinvent the wheel, because the way to design a wheel has been recorded in books.  We don't have to rediscover the principles of geometry, or calculus, or biochemistry, or nuclear physics, or agriculture, or the best way to barbecue rib...

Join the club, let's love together

source: Cosmopolitan To everyone with braces and to everyone who know someone with braces.  The pain we all suffer from, the pain people feel that we (with braces) are exaggerating. But my friend, we are saying the truth when we say it’s not for a kind hearted person. You go through incessant pain. Help those braces people around you. Don’t think they are weird. They are people like you. love them ;) 6 Things a person with braces can understand 1. We long for taking a bite of apple (it does not matter if you like apples or not.) Once we are with braces we feel like Hector Barbossa. Getting a bite of apple is like getting our life back. 2. We start seeing two kinds of food. First, the one we can eat and the other one which is delicious and tasty. 3. Our favorite pass time will be checking the movement of teeth by running our tongue over them. People give us some strange look but we simply cannot help it. 4. We get addicted to use mouthwash every time we eat...

Everybody is free to wear sunscreen

This is a song i have no idea i had in my playlist, i accidentally stumbled upon it. It's a  fine lyrical song and i hope to remember it as i grow old. here it goes.. Ladies and gentlemen of the class of '99 Wear sunscreen If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it The long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists Whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable Than my own meandering experience, I will dispense this advice now Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth, oh, never mind You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth Until they've faded but trust me, in 20 years, you'll look back At photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now How much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked You are not as fat as you imagine Don't worry about the future Or know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation b...

Buying Experiences over commodities

A typical day at the office, dealing with the same customer, dozing off in front of the computer screen. I started to wonder how it would have been if the customer were dealt in person rather than from a computer screen. There were two possibilities one I would have been fired from my job being so sleepy or I would have been more enthusiastic to the customer in-live-in-person. Whatever the possibilities were there, nothing was able to beat down the sleepy-ness in me. So I abruptly stand off from my chair and turned to Mark ji ( one of our colleague in office) and said " Mark ji, please say something interesting, so that I could beat these brain cell and wake them up, " he said " want to go rafting this Saturday?" and in an instant my mind was at the Bhotekoshi, the tides there, the raft on the tide, a true exposure to water I was there feeling the wind on my face letting myself free fall in the imagination then suddenly I was drowning in the river, and at that mo...

love is.......

Image
love is.... "overrated" a friend in our group declared in his intoxicated state. Soon our group divided into two groups, one saying love is overrated and other saying love is no way overrated. They had their points justifying their opinions. Some were bullshit points, some points were justified and some were just the alcohol talk. love is the state of mind which initiates the emo-chemical bond between the parties involved with an irrational inclination towards each other where the primary objective or maybe the only objective lie in seeing the other counterpart happy (well you will be ultimately happy through induction effect of their happiness) with no expectation of reciprocation or whatsoever. okay yes, my definition of love sucks. i don't know, i just wanted to write what would i write down if i have to. Nobody knows anything, else we would have got a standard definition of love. Scientific theories changes every year, economist explain why and how things are...

Who said travelling is fun

Image
Travelling is fun until you long for a bed to lie on or until you like the loud music on the bus or until your GI track yells out “please don’t send more food out here”. But then you think  things won’t be like this when you get home. And at some point you start to love the 90s bollywood songs-“ ghar se nikalte he..kuch dur chalte hi….” And say to yourself “ I am gonna have this song on my playlist.” The strangers talk to your adjacent seat makes you forget how uncomfortable it is to sleep in here and you want to have one last bite of whatever you just had. FYI try yogurt whenever your GI track feels funny while travelling, it helps to cure the sour burp, speaking experience. Travelling takes you to a different world, the world full of strangers stories. I want to go fishing. I want to see the mountains. I want to see different world of people. I want to learn painting in Paris. I want to go on a road trip all over Nepal. There is no point I am making here, its anything, it’s...

Shuffling my playlist

My adhesion equation for music I admit that’s a poor math, that’s why  I wish I should have attend mathematics classes  J . The idea of this equation is lil inspired, the original one was better, now I just messed it up.Anyway,it’s a high  load shedding time so i ridiculously get enough time to think such stuffs.  Music huh?well I  don’t understand music  the very khatra way some great music lover/involved people do,talking stuffs like “what a strong base,a note higher sounds good, resonates well” and all nor do I precisely can tell which genre it is of. I can differentiate the country,soul,rock,hip-hop,folks but not the sub-genre which I find difficult to categories on any genre. I even don’t follow any one specific genre of music.I just love to listen the music that makes you feel good, can relate to it, something that can energize you or soothes you,the music I can listen to and can  appreciate. I love to plug in my headphones and go out for...
